Consistent Wi-Fi Surveys, Wherever They’re Needed
Ekahau AI Pro™ is the Wi-Fi design software of choice for IT professionals leading business-critical Wi-Fi design and deployment projects, and it makes sense for all organisations to train their engineers to world-renowned ECSE (Ekahau Certified Solutions Engineer) standards to design, deploy and troubleshoot better Wi-Fi.
But not every business can spare the time and resources, or they simply don’t have the capacity to complete all the Wi-Fi surveys they need in a timely fashion, and that’s why we built a Global Wi-Fi Survey Service.
During our proud 20-year history in providing Ekahau products and training, we have built a connected ecosystem of experienced Wi-Fi survey partners. Our Global Wi-Fi Survey Service enables channel partners to access this network of Wi-Fi survey experts to deliver survey projects, no matter how complex, how large, or where they are needed.
Every service delivery partner uses industry-leading Ekahau technology to deliver survey projects, and all survey data and reports are checked and verified by an Open Reality engineer to ensure the highest quality results, each and every time.
Global Wi-Fi Survey Solutions from Open Reality
How it Works
1. Wi-Fi Survey Requirement
From the initial contact to discuss your Wi-Fi survey requirement/s we work with you to define the scope, objectives and budget for the project.
2. Partner Selection
Open Reality select the most appropriate Service Delivery Partner (or partners depending on the scale and location of the project) to complete the project. Open Reality send all necessary project documentation (including scope of works, site directions and instructions, and site contact information) to the Service Delivery Partner on behalf of the customer.
3. Data Collection
The Service Delivery Partner attends the site on the agreed date to collect the survey data. Our partners only use the latest version of Ekahau with Ekahau Sidekick or Ekahau Sidekick 2 to ensure data collection consistency and accuracy.
4. Survey Data Validation & Reporting
Open Reality validates all survey data. If there’s anything we aren’t happy with another survey will be conducted free of charge. We then create a survey report using a standard template – so its easy to read and understand from site to site and project to project.
5. Project Debrief
An Open Reality Wireless Engineer will provide a project debrief via video call to help you understand the report and answer questions.

FAQs
Is the service only available in the UK?
No. The service is available globally through our network of approved Service Delivery Partners.
What type of survey do I need?
There are three main types of survey. If you are unsure which type of survey you need please contact us.
1. Predictive Survey (Virtual Wi-Fi Network Design)
During a predictive design, a model of the RF environment is created. It is essential that the correct information on the environment is entered into the RF modelling tool, including location and RF characteristics of barriers like walls or large objects. Therefore, temporary access points or signal sources can be used to gather information on propagation in the environment. Virtual access points are then placed on the floor plan to estimate expected coverage and adjust their number and location.
The value of the predictive design is the ease of seeing the effect of different access points and locations without the expense of purchasing and deploying new hardware.
2. Passive Survey (Wi-Fi Survey)
During a passive survey, we measure Wi-Fi traffic to detect audible access points, measure signal strength and noise level, however, there is no associated to any Wi-Fi networks. Additionally, it is also possible to collect RF spectrum data, which is beneficial in case of high interference from non-Wi-Fi sources, such as microwave ovens or cordless phones.
Active Survey
During an active survey, in addition to the data collect in a passive survey, the engineer is associated to the Wi-Fi network to test to measure round-trip time, Wi-Fi throughput rates, and packet loss.
Throughput Survey
In addition to an active survey, a throughput survey adds additional testing from a Wi-Fi and wired perspective of the whole IP network to test end point server. This allows us to measure the maximum achievable bandwidth.
3. APoS – AP on a Stick Survey (Wireless Pre-Installation Testing)
An AP on a Stick (APoS) survey is a method of temporarily deploying APs at designed locations and height utilising a tripod or other mounting options to validate your predictive design before a full site deployment. APoS surveys identify the RF signal propagation characteristics of the environment while providing additional confidence your proposed design will work as planned, reducing the need for costly AP location changes, and validating you have the correct number of APs in your design.
Additionally, data is captured on other sources of Wi-fi and wireless which may highlight issues prior to the Wi-Fi deployment.
How do I request a quote for a Wi-Fi Survey?
Please complete our quick quote request form or get in touch with us on +44 (0)1235 556 400.
How do I book a Wi-Fi Survey?
Please complete our scope of works form or get in touch with us on 01235 556 400.
Do I need Ekahau or an Ekahau Connect licence to use your service?
No. But we highly recommend it so that you can view/share survey project files using Ekahau Cloud.
Do Open Reality use their own engineers to deliver surveys?
No. All survey work will be conducted by our approved Service Delivery Partners. However, our engineers will validate the survey data and produce the survey documentation.
What tools are used to deliver Wi-Fi surveys?
To ensure accurate and consistent data collection, all surveys are conducted with the latest version of Ekahau AI Pro and Ekahau Sidekick. Data collection for 6GHz surveys will be done with Ekahau Sidekick 2.
Do you have a sample survey report?
Yes you can download it here.
Will Open Reality be providing other services in addition to Wi-Fi Surveys?
No. We have no current plans to expand beyond Wi-Fi site surveys.
